WELCOME!

I'm a piano/keyboard player who's been playing since my mid-teens, based in Canberra, Australia.

Contact me here on my contact page if you’re interested in piano or music theory lessons!

I was self-taught until studying at the Canberra Institute of Technology in 2017-2018, where I attained my Diploma in Music Industry (Performance).
My primary strength on piano is my ability to improvise and play by ear. I’ve always liked making stuff up on the spot!

Throughout and after studying music, I've been playing with bands and artists around Canberra and interstate, such as:
The Dalmatians, Kopasetic, SKINK, Last Call,
Kim Yang
, Fred Smith, Dana Hassall, Moondog, James Southwell,
Rhi Gold, LORNA, Marji Curran

and various other projects and artists, past and present.

Some past projects include Partly Cloudy, Thyme and The Mallory Brown Experience.

I currently work full-time as a musician, teaching piano privately from my home in Weetangera and as a contractor at Chapman Primary School. I have also participated as a tutor in many of the Community Rock School programs that run at the ANU Community Music Centre. Teaching piano and music in general has been one of the most fulfilling and engaging things I've ever taken part in. To be able to share my passion for the piano and performance with all students, younger or older, has been incredibly rewarding, and it's a job I'm very grateful to be able to have.

A word of honesty: I am not a classical musician. I don’t play much classical music, and my playing style is based mostly on a deep understanding of harmony and playing techniques. I am decent at reading music, but it’s not what I do for fun. Classical Music is too rigid for my liking, and I prefer styles where there is some degree of flexibility. This comes through in my teaching as well. If you’re looking to learn classical music, I’m likely not the best teacher for you. If you’re looking to be able to sit at the piano and learn to play your favourite tunes, interpret them and play them with varying degrees of freedom and interpretation, I’m your guy!
